Motorcycle Leathers.?
Ive been thinking about track racing for a while. But first,I need gear. I asked a few people and they said i need leathers and something with lots of protection. Ive looked online and haven't found much regarding woman's leather racing gear. So, One piece or a two piece? Brand? and any advice is helpful. ~Thanks. (:

For racing you need a full one piece. with body armour. go to your nearest dealer, Hein Gerrick or whoever and they will fit you up. your talking about body protection, and you will need it at some point. the more you spend now the more you will save later. the same applies to yopur Helmet, gloves and boots. you wont necessarily need top of the range alpinestars but do get the best you can afford. all the top stores stock female leathers, usually for pillion riders, but there are more and more women racing now. ask about kangaroo leather, its tougher and not that much more expensive. edit ... found this from an earlier question http://www.hardracing.com/motogp.htm

Are motorcycle leathers good after sitting in closet for 5 years?
I'm thinking of buying some used Dainese motorcycle leathers, 2 piece suit. I think they were bought in 2001 or 2003. They have been hanging in a closet in a plastic bag since 2003. Probably not conditioned and only ridden in a few times. Is the leather still good? Safe? She's asking $450. Thanks for the help.

The leather drying out would be the only issue. Cracked and rotted skins will not protect you anymore than a Polo shirt. I'm not saying they're bad, but after being in a closet (with or without bag) they should be checked out by a leather smith or someone who deals and works with leather. Good luck. T

I am confused. What type of leather should I be looking for when buying motorcycle leathers?
I'm looking to buy motorcycle leathers. Should I be looking for cowhide, lambskin, pigskin, or what? I think it should be something pretty thick and durable but still soft and flexible?

Top grain kangaroo has the most abrasion resistance, but is usually cost prohibitive for most riders. Top grain cowhide is second with top grain buffalo being a close third. Naked leather (top grain with the epidermis still intact) is the softest heavy leather you will find. Split leather (which includes suede) is softer but has much less abrasion resistance. Lambskin is soft and will rip much easier. Double stitching is important for durability. http://motorcycle-leathers.net

Motorcycle leathers ..?
hey, i could really do with a nice fitting leather jacket as ive only got textiles. any good value brands you could recommend ? Brands with a UK site is good (:

That question is like asking which shade of black is the blackest. Different people like different brands and swear by them. I suggest going to a store or motorcycle dealer and trying on the jackets. I bought mine from Leather up.com but there are many vendors on the web. Not sure if you can order or do order from Amazon.com but they have the widest variety of vendors out there (IMHO). Always buy a size larger than you would normally wear because you need to wear it over other clothes and even another jacket sometimes. If vanity is your concern, then go to a clothing store and have one tailor fit to you. Protection is protection. Never buy split leather thinking it will stay on you in a crash. Buy the thickest leather you can because the thicker it is, the longer it takes for the road to eat through it. Also remember that the leather will mostly stop road rash, but you may still get burns from sliding on the road from the heat generated from friction. Also consider leather pants or chaps. I strongly suggest armor in the shoulders, elbows and knees. I have been down and know the places that hit the road first and suffer the most damage.
